Silence
relaxation room make-over
2017
This small relaxation room is located in the basement of a single-family home and is meant to welcome guests after a hot sauna session. However, the original atmosphere of the room, with its overloaded decorations and family memorabilia, was less soothing and more reminiscent of a basement than a place of relaxation.
In the redesign, the space was radically reduced in its elements and color choices. The once dominant doors – three in total – are now hidden behind an impressive wallpaper wall. Carefully planned direct and indirect lighting subtly highlights the room, giving it an almost mystical ambiance. Additionally, sound-absorbing materials were used to ensure a quieter sound and transform the basement space into a place for relaxation and unwinding
